Biodiversity Baseline Survey — Reference Data for Reef Programme Assessment

What is Biodiversity Baseline Survey?

KCC carries out pre-installation baseline surveys of existing marine habitats and species assemblages at proposed artificial reef sites to establish reference conditions for post-installation comparison. Baseline surveys are essential for demonstrating the biodiversity benefits of reef programmes.

What's Included

  • Diver survey of existing habitats and species at proposed reef site
  • Recording of species composition, coverage, and biomass
  • HD video and still photography of existing conditions
  • Formal baseline survey report

Why This Matters

Without a pre-installation baseline, it is impossible to demonstrate the biodiversity benefits of an artificial reef programme. KCC's baseline surveys provide the reference data needed to quantify the improvement in biodiversity following reef installation.
