Coral Health Assessment — Monitoring Reef Condition During Construction

What is Coral Health Assessment?

KCC carries out periodic diver inspection of coral colonies to assess bleaching, disease, physical damage, and recovery following disturbance events. Health assessments are carried out at defined intervals during and after construction works to demonstrate compliance with environmental conditions.

What's Included

  • Diver inspection of coral colonies at defined monitoring stations
  • Assessment of bleaching extent, disease prevalence, and physical damage
  • Comparison of results against baseline survey data
  • HD video and still photography of coral condition
  • Formal monitoring report for regulatory submission

Why This Matters

Regular coral health assessments during construction works demonstrate that environmental conditions are being complied with and allow early detection of impacts that require management intervention.
