KCC installs HDPE and GRP pipelines in the marine environment from barge or pontoon platforms, covering outfall pipes, seawater intake pipelines, cooling water systems, and inter-tidal drainage connections. Pipelines are fabricated onshore, floated out in pre-assembled strings, and sunk to the seabed under diver control.
KCC's divers guide each pipe string into its trench or onto the seabed profile, make up joints using mechanical couplings or electrofusion fittings as specified, and confirm alignment and gradient before backfill. For large-diameter pipes, KCC coordinates with marine crane barges for controlled lowering operations. Post-installation CCTV inspection confirms joint integrity and pipeline alignment.
Compliance: Works are conducted under SSBA to IMCA and HSE standards. Marine operations comply with Hong Kong Marine Department requirements.
Correct seabed placement and watertight joint make-up are critical to the long-term performance of marine pipelines. KCC provides the diver expertise to ensure pipelines are laid to gradient, joints are properly made up, and the installation is confirmed by survey before handover.
