KCC provides commercial diving support for the installation of subsea power cables and fibre optic cables in Hong Kong waters. Our scope covers shore-end pull-in operations, mid-water cable lay from barge, cable burial and protection, and post-installation inspection.
KCC's divers handle the critical shore-end and shallow-water sections where cable-lay vessels cannot operate safely — pulling the cable through conduits or ducts, laying it on the seabed profile, and covering it with rock, concrete mattress, or buried in a jet-cut trench as specified. Cable joint bays and transition points are installed and protected under diver supervision.
Compliance: Cable installation is carried out in accordance with CIGRE and IEC standards for submarine cable systems. Diving operations comply with IMCA D 045 and HSE Diving at Work Regulations 1997. Marine operations are planned in accordance with Hong Kong Marine Department requirements.
The shore-end and shallow-water sections of a subsea cable route are the most vulnerable to damage from vessel anchors, trawling, and seabed movement. KCC provides the diver expertise to ensure cables are correctly buried and protected from the moment they leave the cable-lay vessel.
